A new Board of Directors begins July 2013. As we transition I would like to thank those who are leaving the board for their enthusiasm and work on behalf of NAWBO SF Bay Area including Norma La Rosa, Kathy Canfield Shepard, Mia Victoriazza, Stephanie Murphy, Manzar Aziri and Alexandra McFarland many who have been on the board for two years or more. Thank you all! Others are continuing for another term, Kathleen Thurmond, May Pon, Syndi Seid, Laura Russell-Jones, Shannon Presson, Julie Craft and Debra Lardie. The new board members are Emily Wirowek, Julie Gordon White, Rebecca Doubledee, Melody Brumis, Edie Lopez and Liz Davidoff. Welcome to all of you. These are important times for women and especially women business owners. We are driving the economy with the rate we are creating our businesses and as a result have levels of influence not seen before. With influence comes the opportunity to provide leadership, to be heard and to make a difference. To benefit from these opportunities we have to get involved. It goes without saying that we are busy running a successful business but success is so much more. With success comes the ability to make a difference. Our lives are more than our business. This richer fuller life begins with knowing what is important to us and what we value. Those values are reflected in our business and our lives but we get so busy that we forget why we are doing what we do. It is my hope that NAWBO SF Bay Area will continue to remind us that we are bigger than our business. The mission of NAWBO SF Bay Area: We are women business owners working on behalf of women business owners. In that capacity, we strive to:
Involvement makes all the difference. There is a place for you to become involved in small and big ways. Help with a one-time project, an ongoing project, a committee or in a leadership role. There is a place that suits your time and talents besides it is fun. If you are not someone who likes to get involved then simply support NAWBO by sharing your thoughts, attending events while you benefit from the relationships you create and the information you gather. Join us July 11 for the installation of the new board by SF City Administrator, Naomi Kelly and hear from our guest speaker, Kikanza Nuri-Robins on Making Room at the Table, a discussion on inclusion and diversity in the workplace. I look forward to meeting you and having you part of NAWBO SF Bay Area as we work to support our members. Best wishes on your success, Kay Robinson Members in the News & Member Spotlights

NAWBO ® SF Bay Area Monthly Educational Speaker Series & DinnerSecond Thursday Installation Dinner for the 2013-2014 Board of DirectorsSpecial Speaker: Dr. Kikanza Nuri Robins on Making Room at the TableOnce a year we recognize the women who give of their time and talents to support our organization. Please join us in the celebration as we thank all of our volunteers and install our new 2013-2014 NAWBO-SFBA Officers and Board of Directors. Plus! Our featured speaker this evening will be Dr. Kikanza Nuri Robins who will inspire us as she presents Making Room at the Table. As women business owners, we are acutely aware of how important it is that there’s room for us “at the table”. But have we ever considered the bigger “why” of why it makes good business sense? Or why it’s so difficult to achieve? Perhaps it is because the real issue is diversity and inclusion. Getting people to the table is easy. It’s keeping people at the table where the real work begins. Dr. Kikanza Nuri-Robins shares her insights and observations with clarity and candor, while gently encouraging women to face the difficult situations that challenge their values. She leads people to this growing edge with unswerving focus, an understanding heart, and laughter that rises from the seat of her soul. Read more. Naomi M. Kelly, City Administrator for the City and County of San Francisco, will be our special guest this evening to install the 2013- 2014 NAWBO BOARD. Ms. Kelly oversees the City’s General Services Agency consisting of 20 departments, divisions, and programs. The General Services Agency has an annual budget of over $450 million and approximately 2,100 employees. Ms. Kelly is the first woman and African American to serve as City Administrator of the City and County of San Francisco. Third Wednesday 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM NEW LOCATION: Small Business Administration SFDO 455 Market Street, Suite 600 San Francisco, CA 94105 (415) 744-6777 July 17 - Mindset: Your Personal Competitive Advantage Did you know that your mindset can either keep you from attaining your goals or propel you to achieving them? Your mindset formed around your life experience, and that means that it can be changed and improved for higher success, achievement and satisfaction. We often take our mindset for granted, thinking it is just who we are. We might even become frustrated by external events, feeling that we have no control over them. Those who have mastered their mindset see these frustrating events in a totally different light, which drives them towards growth and success even faster. They are able to master their reaction to these events and take much more control over the success of their work and relationships. In this session, we will review the two types of mindsets and a few tactics you can use to ensure yours is not holding you back, but propelling you to business and relationship success. Jessica Weatherford, Managing Partner of Marble Arch Consultants, Inc. works side-by-side with executive teams of organizations. She helps to not only increase the effectiveness and financial results of the organization, but to also reconnect the employees to the business. Jessica was previously a CFO and has an MBA and MS.
