May Message from the President
I want to start off by thanking the NAWBO-SFBA Board and breakfast facilitators for all that they have done and continue to do to shape this wonderful organization dedicated to supporting the collective power of women while celebrating our diversity to create powerful change both personally and professionally. I also want to thank all of you who have attended NAWBO educational dinner meetings and morning breakfasts this year because your presence, questions and connection help us grow and strengthen NAWBO as an organization. It takes all of us to create a powerful, relevant women’s business organization and we could not continue to effectively evolve and improve without you and the shared wisdom of our incredible speaker
One of the many things that is so wonderful about NAWBO is that it is a group of bright businesswomen who come to connect, learn and share their wisdom with each other. Smart Brief, the NAWBO National eblast recently featured an article from the Huffington Post regarding a book entitled “Femininity and the Athena Doctrine” by John Gerzema. I don’t love the title and yet what it talks about is how traditional feminine traits are beginning to emerge in the world of leadership and career management demonstrating that, “All leaders, male or female, innately possess feminine qualities like empathy, candor and vulnerability -- the difference lies in which leaders choose to suppress those qualities, and which choose to leverage them as strengths. So at the core of the book is this notion that feminine values are an underutilized competitive advantage. Again and again, our data and interviews kept showing us that femininity is the operating system of the 21st century -- and that women, and the men who can think like them, are creating a world we'll all want to inhabit”, Gerzema, Huffington Post.
Reading this article I felt excited and encouraged that rather than telling us we need to behave in a traditionally male way to succeed in business, that both men and women need to embrace traditional female traits of empathy, expressiveness and intuition in today’s workplace and it’s not about women adopting the ways of men but according to the author it’s the other way around. Please join us at NAWBO as we embrace the balance of who we are as people in our courage, determination, strength, empathy, candor and vulnerability. This makes for a very powerful and wise businesswoman.
Come join us May 9 as we hear a panel of financial experts talk about how to “Avoid the Top 5 Financial Mistakes Made by Women Business Owners,” and on June 7, Lynne Twist will enlighten us with her work focused on “The Soul of Money.”
Warm regards,
Kathleen Thurmond

Your Business Reimagined
Why do so many businesses fail to live up to their potential or fail altogether despite the best efforts of their owners?
There is a myth we call it the entrepreneurial myth or "EMyth" that says just because someone starts a business they are an entrepreneur and have the knowledge and know-how to bring a product or service to the marketplace and create a company to support it.
The truth is many business owners start with a passion to work for themselves. It isn't until they begin to juggle all of the operational "hats" essential to keep the business going that they realize they don't know what they don't know. Let's face it. There is a lot to know about building and running a successful business. In this presentation, you will:
- Wake up the entrepreneur and re-imagine what your business could be.
- Embrace your role as its leader by connecting back to your values, passion and purpose.
- Learn the Five Core Principles as a foundation for success.
- Learn how to work ON your business and think strategically every day.
- Walk way energized and ready to become the entrepreneur you set out to be.
